Raised in Managua, Nicaragua, Simone developed a passion for community development and food security from a young age. Inspired by the inherent wealth of knowledge that exists in communities, and a drive to make a positive impact, Simone pursued a B.A with dual majors in Environmental Studies and International Relations from Franklin College Switzerland. She continued to develop her passion by working with rural communities in Guatemala, Malawi, Nicaragua and Thailand where she learned about tailoring strategies to meet local needs. Simone joined Sustainable Food Center in early 2013 as Community Outreach Coordinator, and continues to be inspired on a daily basis by the relationships she is cultivating in our local community. She also represents SFC as Food Sector Manager for GO!Austin/VAMOS!Austin (GAVA), a partnership of residents, community leaders and nonprofit agencies devoted to improving the health of residents in the Dove Springs and 78745 communities by increasing access to physical activity and nutritious foods. Simone loves to experience culture through food and travel, explore nature’s delights, and visit farmers’ markets.
