Originally from Dallas, Texas, Katie Pace is a long-time educator and food gardener with a background in permaculture and sustainable design. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD in History from the University of Melbourne. She began growing food in Melbourne, where she collaborated with permaculture gardeners to convert residential yards and unused public spaces into edible gardens. In the process, she developed a passion for environmental history, ecological sustainability, and food justice. Prior to joining SFC's Grow Local team, she completed a horticulture internship at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and she worked as a landscaper, designing, installing and maintaining low-water gardens. When she is not working, she is swimming in Barton Springs, drumming, dancing or playing scrabble with friends.
